The Index Project, (at halfway through)

Using nontraditional methods, I’ve been writing a book. It began with an index I found for which no book was ever written. Believing that indexes contain an abbreviated form of the whole book from which they function, I devised constraints that would lead me sequentially “backwards” to discover that book. The manuscript in 2008 was in several stages which act as documentation and comprise 3000 pages. It is both sculptural and conceptual as well as culminating in a readable book format. I’m now ready to write this final stage, the book itself, applying the directives that have emerged so far. I’ll keep you posted.
